Story Consulting

I love helping other filmmakers tell their stories and supporting creatives through the process of exploration, iteration, and revision. I’ve been so lucky in my career to work alongside some of the best storytellers in the business, from my time in the development department at Pixar Animation Studios to working alongside a showrunner crafting pitches and pilots for Universal Television.

My process is tailored to the individual and revolves around communication through 1-on-1 conversations. I start by helping the artist unearth the deeper truths they’re trying to convey through their work. Then we talk about how those ideas are or aren’t coming across in their current draft or rough cut, and how they might convey their intentions more clearly and impactfully. At its heart, this is a process of discovery: less about identifying what ‘isn’t working,’ and rather focusing on the goals of the creative and how they can craft their work to achieve a desired impact on their audience.

Services

Please reach out to discuss rates and availability–I’m always happy to do a free 15-minute intro consultation with a prospective client to make sure we’re a good fit! All 1-on-1 meetings are virtual over Zoom, and my turnaround time after you send me your PDFs/screener links is 1-2 weeks, although rush services are available.

Below is a (non-comprehensive!) overview of the services I’m happy to offer. I also offer reduced rates per project for rewrites beyond our first session together, as well as multi-draft packages.

Feature Script Read & Feedback

I’ll read through your current screenplay draft and meet with you 1-on-1 for 2-3 hours to discuss structure, characters, tone & voice. We’ll work together to identify a specific gameplan for your next revision.

TV Pilot Read & Feedback

I’ll read through your current pilot draft and meet with you 1-on-1 for 1-2 hours to discuss structure, story engine, and characters, as well as tone & voice. Can also include feedback or brainstorming on creating show bible materials beyond the pilot script.

Short Film Script Read & Feedback

For short film scripts up to 20 pages, I’ll read your current draft and we’ll meet 1-on-1 for 1-2 hours to discuss overall concept, structure, and how to make the most impact with a limited amount of screentime. Can also include initial conversations around production feasibility.

Work-In-Progress/Rough Cut Evaluation

I’ll watch the current cut of your film and we’ll meet 1-on-1 for 1-2 hours to discuss what you feel is working in the film’s current form and what can be strengthened to help convey your intended message and meaning. These evaluations can focus on story and structure or also include focus on later post-production elements like sound design, sound mix, and score.

Story Brainstorm

Still figuring out what you want to write about? Not sure if an idea is better suited to a screenplay or a pilot? We’ll meet 1-on-1 to talk about the inspiration for your idea, what you want to say with it, and how to create concrete plans to move forward from the brainstorming phase into the execution phase.
